Eb games was an amazing job until I transferred to the city from a small town store and management was horribly different, they were horrible and mean to me and would irresponsibly talk to customers about me.
I felt insecure in my job. Pros Working with stuff you love. Cons Managers moods. Was this review helpful? Yes No. Report Share. Working at Eb games is extremely fun and is a great way to get into retail and gives new workers the opportunity to get an idea of how the retail industry works.
I loved EB games as the team I got to work with made every hour so enjoyable, there were a few ups and downs but apart from them an amazing experience. Great place to work - great team culture and lots of fun Would highly recommend.
I was sad to leave but due to store closures my hours were cut. EB Games is great to work at. I loved my job at EB Games, but my boss passed away and the person who took over made sure I didn't have any shifts. The rules at EB Games is that if you haven't had a single shift in months your contract with them is terminated. Rate your recent company Share your experience to help others. Management could be pretty slack concerning store upkeep and presentation for promotional periods.
General Staff was constantly changing as there is a high turnover - All staff are welcoming and friendly so the inshore and area environment was very positive. A nightmare. Not worth the hassle. Save yourself the hassle, and don't bother. On top of this, they have not sent me a group certificate, or any payslips. Cons Very cliquey staff, zero advancement, not disability friendly.
Yes There are 15 helpful reviews 15 No There are 7 unhelpful reviews 7. Fantastic environment. Starting as a christmas casual got my foot in the door to be rehired as a permanent casual sales assistant. It is the most fun and comfortable job I've ever had! The managers are fantastic and caring and willing to take care of us younger ladies when the odd horrible customer comes in. This is a retail job so expect the long hours, shift work and sore feet that comes with that, however it is a fantastic job!
Pros Friendly colleagues. Yes There are 4 helpful reviews 4 No. Yes There are 6 helpful reviews 6 No There are 1 unhelpful reviews 1. The store is always fairly busy and rarely empty, so being prepared to assist with any and all of the customers needs is key. Depending on the customers needs, it can sometimes be stressful trying to keep up with all the work that needs to be done as far as helping them out whilst maintaining the shop, but being part of the sales team helps you learn the management skills to do just that.
Between keeping up store appearances, handling incoming stock and customers, the management of the shop is really a team effort between the sales people and the management as it is all really done on the shop-floor. The best part of working at Eb Games though is definitely working alongside other people who share your passion for games. I enjoyed working here for the short time I did, it opened my eyes in retail.
I loved the people I worked with. I would definitely work here again. The most enjoyable part of the job for me was working with a medium I have a passion for.
Pros free merchandise from time to time. Cons I didn't like being extra happy all the time. Yes There are 17 helpful reviews 17 No There are 3 unhelpful reviews 3. I had to mostly serve customers and present the store so that customers were able to see all current promotions and assist them to easily find a product that they were looking for. The store manager I worked with was great and so were the other workers, The hardest part of working there was losing my job for unjust reason as the area manager wanted to get rid of male's working in the workplace, I enjoyed serving customers a lot.
Yes There are 7 helpful reviews 7 No There are 2 unhelpful reviews 2. Encouraging workforce and management with excellent employee validation and appreciation shown regularly. Challenging but fulfilling job, enjoyable and exciting. Your successes and achievements are celebrated and congratulated, mistakes are learnt from and your manager actively helps you to learn how to do something properly until you're comfortable on your own.
Yes There are 2 helpful reviews 2 No There are 3 unhelpful reviews 3. Very productive and organised. Fun working environment. The store was very productive and organised. It was a fast paced job with the right amount of fun to keep the team motivated. I found the hardest part of the job was getting used to the different exchange rate but the best part was dealing with customers that were just as interested in the items we sold as myself.
Pros Being allowed to borrow games. Cons Working over Christmas holidays. Yes There are 2 helpful reviews 2 No There are 2 unhelpful reviews 2. A typical day of work as a sales assistant required me to sort through merchandise, prepare and maintain arrangements within the store, help with customer queries and complete any task required of me by management.
I learned how to up sell, how to politely talk to customers with sincerity, I gained a retail mindset and learned how to set up arrangements to be appealing to customers. My co-workers constantly pushed me to do better within my job and management gave me the support to grow in my job and become better. The hardest part of the job was knowing that I wasn't going to be kept on for an extended amount of time due to the store budget not being able to afford it.
This position meant that management did not have any plans for me to have a chance at a higher position within the company and did not teach me certain skills or allowed me to do certain tasks. The most enjoyable part of the job was definatly working amongst great people doing something that I loved which was talking about video games and making sales.

Benefits keep you there. Wage is trash. Management is trash. Targets and what's expected of you are abhorrent. The progression is tailored to friends rather than who's right for the job.
Some stores will condition you into acting certain ways. Staff and customers alongside the benefits are the only reasons to stay.
The wage is very poor. Overtime is paid at time and an eighth, a figure I never thought possible. Great learning experience but ultimately not a job for long term or your mental health. New system is to train everyone to assistant manager level whilst cutting back on managers and not actually paying you for the responsibilities you are expected to take on. Pros Discount.
Cons Unrealistic expectations on sales attachments. Was this review helpful? Yes No. There are some good managers and some terrible managers in Game. Your experience will change depending on what your manager is like.
